Putting your website in maintenance mode shows an ‘under construction’ message to visitors while you continue to work on your website as an admin.
Before you start
✅ Maintenance mode is useful when building a new website or making changes to an existing one, acting like a temporary curtain on your site.
ℹ️ You can use a free WordPress plugin to put your website in maintenance mode.
Step by step
1. Log in to your WordPress admin dashboard
2. Go to Plugins → Add New Plugin

3. Search for the Maintenance plugin and click Install Now

4. Activate the Maintenance plugin

5. Once activated, click on Plugins. Find the Maintenance plugin and click on Settings.

6. Set your content preferences, to personalize the message displayed to your website visitors

7. Set the toggle to ON to activate maintenance mode on your website

8. Click the Save Changes button

9. Your site is now in maintenance mode. Your website visitors will see your message when visting your website.

10. To remove maintenance mode, set the maintenance toggle to OFF and save changes, or simply deactivate the Maintenance plugin.
