Change an A record entry on your domain name at Cloudflare

Definitions

When your domain uses the Cloudflare nameservers, the DNS records for your domain name are managed on your Cloudflare account, including your A record entries.

A records are a type of DNS record that connect your domain name to an IP address, telling the internet where to find your website, email, or a specific value tied to your domain name.

If you need to change an A record entry for your domain name at Cloudflare, follow the steps provided below.

Before you start

❗When the Cloudflare CDN is active for your domain, Cloudflare is your DNS provider, so you’ll manage all DNS settings on Cloudflare and not on your hosting control panel with us.

⚠️ If you run into issues or errors regarding Cloudflare and its DNS management, consult the official Cloudflare help documentation or support channels directly.

ℹ️ When you make changes to the DNS records for your domain on your Cloudflare account, it may take up to 24 hours to load across the internet. This process is called DNS propagation.

Step by step

1. Go to the Cloudflare website and log in to your account

2. Find and click on your domain name

3. Click the DNS tab from the menu

4. Under the Type column, look for A entries, these are your A records. You will see a few different ones.

5. To change an A record of a specific entry, click Edit to the right of it

6. To change where an A record is pointed, delete the old IP address and replace it with the new IP address in the IPv4 Address field under the Content column. Then, click the Save button.

  • Here is an example of the process:

⚠️ Note: This is just an example. Your IP address and settings may differ.

 7. Repeat this same process one by one for each A record entry you need to change
