Update the email records on your domain name at Cloudflare
Definitions
When you update the email records on your domain at Cloudflare, you change the settings on Cloudflare that tell where emails for your domain name should go.
If you use our email service and just activated the Cloudflare CDN (Content Delivery Network) on your domain name, you need to update the email record at Cloudflare for your email to work and route correctly.
Before you start
✅ The Cloudflare CDN must be active on your domain name before completing the steps in this guide.
⚠️ This guide only applies to you if you use the email service through your hosting service with us.
🚨When you use the Cloudflare CDN and our email service, you must complete the steps in this guide for your email service to work.
Step by step
1. Go to the Cloudflare website and log in to your account
2. Find and click on your domain name

3. Click on DNS from the menu

4. Under the DNS entries, under the Name field, locate your mail record. This entry is called your mail A record.

5. Click on Edit on the right-hand side

6. In the IPv4 address (required) field, put in the IP address of your hosting account. If the IP address already matches the IP address of your hosting account, you don’t need to edit it.
7. Under the Proxy Status, toggle OFF the orange cloud. The cloud should now turn grey and read DNS only. Once you’ve done that, click the Save button.

8. Under the Type column, locate your MX record

9. Click Edit on the right-hand side

10. Update your MX record settings to the following, or make sure they are already match these:
- Name (required): Type in ‘@‘ without quotations, only put the symbol. If the MX record name already shows your full domain name, you don’t need to edit it.
- Mail server (required): Put in mail. followed by your domain name. For example, for our domain name infoceptor.com, the mail server would be: mail.infoceptor.com
- Priority: 10

11. If you made edits, make sure to click the Save button to apply them

12. When you’re done, check you have both your mail A record and MX record set up properly. You can see a visual example below.
⚠️ Note: This is just an example. Your IP address may differ.
