Change your email address password
Definitions
When you change your email address password, you set a new password to access your email address. The new email password replaces the old one.
Before you start
✅ You can change your email password from your hosting control panel or webmail, steps for both methods are shown below.
ℹ️ On the hosting control panel method, use the system password generator to set a strong password for your email address.
❌ Never share your email address password publicly.
Step by step
Hosting control panel
⚠️ Note: You can change your email password from your hosting control panel without knowing your current email password. Normally, you will always use this method to change your email address password.
1. Log in to your hosting control panel
2. From the top right, click the down arrow ∨ and choose the domain associated to the email address you want to change a password for

3. Click on the Email Accounts button

4. Find your email address. In our example, we will change the password for [email protected]

5. Click on the plus + sign to the right of your email address

6. From the popup, select Change Password/Username

7. On the Password field, click the dice ⚁ ⚁ button to generate a secure password

8. Once you’ve generated a new password, click the Save button

9. On the Email Updated popup, you’ll see your new email password. Highlight and copy down your new password on a secure note or your password manager. After noting it down, click the X at the top right.

10. If you use the email address you changed the password for on any email app (Apple Mail, Outlook, Gmail, etc.), update the password on the IMAP and SMTP settings on those apps too. ❗IMPORTANT: Failing to do so will result in failed login attempts that can block your IP address from the hosting network.
Webmail
⚠️ Note: You need to know your current email password to update it from webmail. If you do not know your current email password, scroll up and use the steps under the Hosting control panel method instead.
1. Open and complete all the steps in this guide: Log in to your email via webmail
2. Click on Settings from the left-hand menu

3. Click on 🔒 Password

4. Fill in the password fields:
- Current Password: Put in your existing email password
- ℹ️ New Password: Put in a new email password
- Confirm New Password: Re-type in your new email password
ℹ️ When setting a new password, adhere to these guidelines:
✓ Complex & Long: At least 12 characters with a mix of letters, numbers, and symbols
✓ Random: Avoid predictable information like names or common words
✓ Unique: Use a different password for each email address

5. Take note of your new email password on a secure note or your password manager
6. Click the Save button

7. You’ll get a Successfully saved message at the bottom of your screen

8. If you use the email address you changed the password for on any email app (Apple Mail, Outlook, Gmail, etc.), update the password on the IMAP and SMTP settings on those apps too. ❗IMPORTANT: Failing to do so will result in failed login attempts that can block your IP address from the hosting network.
